[LOGic] Logic 9

You are correct! Some of the USA special callsigns are as goofy as the
French! I rarely see that though, as I am not chasing USA or possessions,
but of course you're right about our own special callsigns. The one that
frustrate me the most are the T#xxx whichFrance seems to throw out all so
frequently. I'm not a Francophobe, but they seem to leave me scarcthing my
head a lot!!!
All these "one-offs" are a pain for LOGIC and probably ANY logging program!
If the log operator is not aware of new stuff going on, he's gonna
accumulate a bunch of errors and inaccuracies. In LOGIC's heyday there were
a number of hams keeping an eye on things, keeping the LOGIC community
apprised of DX and prefixes, and keeping the tables and databases current.
I'm afraid this is no longer the case, and all of us who are chasing various
awards are slowly drifting out to space!

... the problem is closer to home than France Dan.
Most recently the US of A allocated N8A and W8A for the DXpedition to KH8 -
American Samoa, requiring a "user entry" in the Prefix table.

Yes and some countries (France in particular) are notorious for creating
"one-off" callsigns for a certain DXpedition...you punch that callsign into
LOGIC and it fits the Prefix Table criteria of some totally different
location, DXCC prefix, etc. Maddening! Of course this is not LOGIC's fault,
but if your tables & database don't have the latest & greatest info, you
will get false reports which will kill you if you're chasing DXCC, IOTA,
etc.

I agree...
When I updated to Logic 9 many DXCC countries were changed ( i.e. old YU's
became S5's...)
I spent many hours editing my log and still have errors.
As a result, the DXCC mode and band totals in my log are suspect and I rely
on LOTW to tally my progress.

Caution...
I was telling George that my DXCC and prefix databases have evolved over the
last decade or two (since Logic4). Since about Logic 7, all my updates have
been manual, based on information I obtained about new entities,
DXpeditions, etc. I think, but do not know for sure, my databases are about
98% current and accurate.
However: Some years back, I downloaded and installed (or imported?) one of
Dennis' updates, and to my horror, found that I had actually DELETED a
number of my manual entries and that my Awards Progress had actually gotten
worse! From that point I was never sure which database was the most current.
It all comes down to what is the most current database at what point in
time?
I notice that the link Peter provides is about a year old...I'm tempted to
import it, but am also reluctant to import "what ain't broke".
How does one assure that this type of update is positive and not
destructive?

I am still using LOGic 8 and I am glad to see that this reflector is still
alive and well. We continue to have about 300 members subscribed. The
problems in the last year or so seem to have been minimal and the messages
few.
I have not been in the best of heath and my radio activity has been way
down, but now that I am on the rebound, I have spent the last couple of
weeks catching up on all my QSLing and all my cards for K3GV/VY2 have been
sent direct to those who requested them with return envelopes and the rest
are ready to go out thru the bureau.
What I am in need of is an updated file for all countries especially those
that have been added to the DXCC list. Does anyone have an updated list they
would be willing to share?
