[LOGic] Function Key Message Nesting

I am trying to get Logic to use one function key's contents in the message
of another key. This would be particularly useful in making use of contents
associated with keys that cannot be directly accessed on the keyboard. My
keyboard goes only through F12, but as a recall Logic defines the contents
of 20 locations.
The example given by Dennis in the help files is Example: Suppose that
function key 1 has CALL + " DE " + OPERATOR in it. You insert this in
function key 2: TERMINALFUNC(1) + " TNX FER THE CALL" Function key 2 could
transmit WN4AZY DE N6MRQ TNX FER THE CALL.
I have tired to get this to work, but using an expression like
TERMINALFUNC(1) gives a "invalid array subscript" error. Can anyone help me
with this?
