Yes, for the moment QSL cards are the only way to CONFIRM a QSO. The ARRL=
is working on developing an electronic QSL, whereby stations would upload=
their operating logs to a common server, and if both parties to a QSO have=
uploaded their logs and the data matches, an e-QSL would be issued that=
would then be valid for awards. Look for this in the not too distant=
future (hopefully).
Much the same type of thing is done for contest logs, whereby participants=
send their logs to the contest sponsor, who then inputs all logs into a=
common database where they are all cross checked for accuracy. Many=
contests will then penalize entrants who have too many unverified QSO's.
Until then, keep buying those stamps and IRC's ;o)
