Thanks for this tidbit!
So the only affected (not too exotic) compilers are the (older)
SJLJ-MinGWs (or am I misunderstanding, and the SJLJ-mechanism only
refers to C++ exception handling)?
I believe I already learned more about C on this list than anyplace else...
