In Lua 5.1 lua_open is just a macros (see reference manual [http://www.lua.org/manual/5.1/manual.html#7.3] for details), it is defined in lua.h for compatibility

#define lua_open() luaL_newstate()
so you need to import luaL_newstate instead...
