You can't have "cheap" and "flexible" in the same box. If by Cheap you mean
a sub 150ドル COTS box, you can forget about writing your own iptables rules
(for the most part) and also about doing cool stuff like IPSec, GRE, and
load balancing.. A good 300ドル solution would be a mini-ITX box with an 800Mhz
C3 in it, using a CF card as a system disk. That will be silent, low power,
and give you all of the flexibility you currently enjoy. I've been using one
of these for a long time and it works very well.
