Run "testparm" against your old "smb.conf" file to see where the errors are. It might be better to manually migrate the settings to the new "smb.conf" file.

I would recommend using Shorewall to configure your firewall. Shorewall can be configured through plain text files. There is also a Webmin module for Shorewall. http://shorewall.net/
