Re: [PLUG] NIC driver installation howto? (newbieish level help needed)
Alas, I only go on-site once a week, and until I get the network card (and
then ssh) working I can't do any troubleshooting till then. However, here is
a route -n from a box on the same switch and subnet:
Actually, what you could use is a null-modem cable. Connect the cable
between a working system and your non-networked system. Then, ssh into
the working system, start something like minicom to establish a session
on the other system, and you're in! Although the speed will be limited
to 115,200 bps you will be able to use text-based utilities without much
trouble and even transfer files between the systems. Think BBS.
Another idea I got from a Sun admin back in the day, if you have two
systems, is to use two null-modem cables. That way if either goes down
you can still connect to the other through the serial cable. You're on
the road if /both/ go down!
