I suspect your math is a little off. First, in most school districts,
teachers have to take or are strongly encouraged to(read that as must)
additional education for promotions or even just to remain in the same
position. 2nd, do the math for yourself, unless a teacher seeks out
additional work i.e. summer school or whatever, said teacher only has
the amount paid per year as a base salary, and in this society, doing
extra work for extra money is an accepted practice. Third, it's hard to
see a real economic incentive to become a teacher. It's possible to
make more money with the same amount of education except in perilous
economic times, and it's not all that difficult either. Yet, we expect
teachers to produce and encourage the genius and the idiot. Good
teachers are worth a great deal more than paid, and even mediocre ones
can usually earn more doing any of a variety of things.
one more comment, it's 10 months, not 9 months.
