mutt check the signature with gpg and grep the output. You perhaps need to define a custom regexp expreession to detect successful check. I am french so I use the following : set pgp_good_sign="^gpg: Bonne signature de" Also a good thing to do is to add a gpg keys server in your .gnupg/options file : ~$ grep keyserver .gnupg/options keyserver pgp.mit.edu then mutt (gpg) will retrieve automatically missing key from this server.
