What is "MORE SL"?

A global initiative to understand and assist the transition to sustainable lifestyles

Unsustainable consumption patterns and lifestyles are among the main underlying roots of today's global environmental and socioeconomic problems, yet despite increasing awareness and information, the problems continue to grow. What is needed is the transition to sustainable lifestyles, i.e., to ways of living without causing harm, meeting our needs without undermining the needs of others, including future generations. Why is such a transition so difficult? How can we make this journey -- not just as individuals but as part of a larger community.
More sustainable lifestyles
The MORE SL Initiative represents and evolving global community of sustainable lifestyle researchers working together in conjunction with the Sustainable Lifestyles and Education Program -- part of the 10 Year Framework of Programs mandated by the UN General Assembly in 2012 -- to deepen understanding of the challenge of making the necessary transition to sustainable lifestyles.

MORE SL aims to bring together researchers, policymakers, educators, business leaders and social innovators engaged in foster sustainable practices and lifestyles.

Co-led by the Global Research Forum on Sustainable Production and
Consumption (GRF) and Integrative Strategies Forum (ISF), MORE SL links researchers and practitioners from different regions and disciplines to help strengthen the various initiatives, policies and programs engaged in these transitions.

Our objectives
The MORE SL Initiative aims to achieve the following four objectives:
  • Deepen understanding of lifestyles
  • Support sustainable lifestyle initiatives
  • Develop scenarios of future lifestyles
  • Measure progress in the transition to more sustainable lifestyles

Around the world communities are finding new ways to improve the quality of people's lives and reduce harm to the environment and health
