JavaFX links of the week, October 18

‘Twas the week before JavaOne and not a developer was stirring 🙂 Well, almost – there are still some interesting links this week. For everyone going to JavaOne I wish you safe travels and I look forward to seeing you all in a weeks time. For those of you unable to attend – keep an eye out on the usual places for all the latest news. I’ll not be doing my post next week, but I will try my best to recap when I return to New Zealand after JavaOne.

• Better late than never, Jeff Friesen has just posted about JavaFX improvements in Java SE 8u40 (such as accessibility, dialogs, spinner, and formatted text input).
• Michael Heinrichs has open sourced his ?aj testing framework. ?aj “enables you to write expectations for your tests in a straightforward and simple way.”
• Hendrik Ebbers has posted a tutorial on how to build a JavaFX application using the Dolphin Platform project.
• Andres Almiray has announced that Basilisk 0.0.0 has been released. Basilisk is a fork of Griffon that also includes mobile support.
• I came across FXMaps on GitHub this week. It is a JavaFX Client API for Google Maps Services.

JavaFX links of the week, October 12

Not long to go now until JavaOne! I’m really looking forward to heading over there again – it’s always nice to meet old and new friends. If you’re going to JavaOne be sure to come up and say hi! 🙂 There is a heap of interesting links this week – there is not the usual quiet period before JavaOne like in most years! Enjoy.

• There were a number of Gluon open source related posts this week. Firstly, there was the announcement of Gluon Ignite, an open source JavaFX dependency injection framework. Secondly, they announced the release schedules for Scene Builder and JavaFXPorts projects. Thirdly, they released Gluon JavaFX Mobile SDK 8.60.6 for Android and iOS. Fourthly, they also released Gluon JavaFX Embedded (ARM) SDK 8.60.6. Finally, there was an interesting blog post about writing native activities for Android / iOS using the open source Gluon Charm Down library.
• Jens Deters has released MQTT.fx 0.0.18. As always this comes with a number of new features and bug fixes.
• Rob Terp has a small post about some useful tools that people who develop JavaFX software should be familiar with.
• Hendrik Ebbers continues to post about the Dolphin Platform project. This week he has posts on the model API and the view API.
• Andres Almiray has blogged about how the Griffon project has been forked to create the Basilisk project, which “aims to bring the Griffon experience to mobile/desktop application development”.
• A. Sundararajan has posted about building a standalone JavaFX FXML app with nashorn scripts for event handling – and no java code!
• Dirk Lemmermann has opened the online store for the CalendarFX project (it is also available on ComponentSource).

JavaFX links of the week, October 5

It’s only three weeks until JavaOne is in full swing (pun intended) – I hope those of you presenting are getting prepared. Myself? I’m getting there slowly… I can’t wait until JavaOne arrives – being a month later this year has set my excitement up a level it seems.

• Hendrik Ebbers has blogged a sneak peak at the Dolphin Platform – an open source project he is working on which will be shown in more detail at JavaOne.
• Gluon did two interesting posts this week. Firstly, they have developed an alternative JavaOne client for mobile devices. It is very nice looking! Secondly, they have released live templates for JavaFX properties for use in IntelliJ IDEA. Disclaimer: I’m an advisor at Gluon.
• Rob Terp did essentially exactly the same thing as the IntelliJ live templates for NetBeans – it can now autogenerate methods for JavaFX properties. Very nice!
• Aron Sreder has blogged about how to easily implement a JavaFX application preloader.
• Kamil Baczkowicz has released mqtt-spy 0.3.0.
