Our relationship with plastics is a complicated one. They play a crucial role in our economy and daily lives, but too often have serious negative effects on the environment, marine life and human health.

This is why the EU's battle against plastic pollution is an ongoing one, which includes our Plastics Strategy, designed to accelerate the transition to a more circular and resource-efficient plastics economy. Within this, specific rules and targets apply, including on single-use plastics, plastic packaging and microplastics.
