I was lucky to meet Kristian in two short occasions (or rather unlucky because only two). Having read and cited his works and listen to the comments from the other senior polychaetologists, meeting Kristian was like a teenager with his favourite pop star - either you become very excited or too shy because "He is a popstar!". I vividly remember during IPC 13 in Sydney when we had a serious debate in the middle of conference, when Kristian stood up and gave his points - everybody seemed quiet and apparently accepted his view. Thats clearly show the position Kristian had within polychaetogist community.
As a junior in this field, the email by Kristian (forwarded by Jim Carlton) is a good advice particularly "First, earlier scientists were just as bright as we are. They had a different knowledge-base to work with, and as a consequence made decisions that we would not make at this time (I hope)." and most important " In this business nobody ever says the final word: We must all be prepared to be corrected by future development; this is what science is all about."
Thank you very, very much Kristian Fauchald.....
