Dear all,
Maybe some of you were already aware of this, but I have just found that a
previous version of the polychaete series of the "Taxonomic Atlas of the
Benthic Fauna of the Santa Maria Basin and Western Santa Barbara Channel" is
available online. They can be downloaded and include the OCR option.
**IMPORTANT**
HOWEVER, this is NOT the same version than the one published by the Santa
Barbara Museum of Natural History, which is the valid publication according
to ICZN rules, and the one that should always be cited. The version
available online is not to be considered as a valid publication, is a
previous version, and has a clear taxonomic disclaimer stating that
"THIS REPORT IN NOT DEEMED NOR INTENDED TO BE A VALID PUBLICATION FOR THE
NAMING OF NEW TAXA AS STIPULATED IN THE INTERNATIONAL CODE OF ZOOLOGICAL
NOMENCLATURE, ARTICLE 8b."
The present version are the reports as presented to the U.S. Department of
the Interior, Minerals Management service, Pacific OCS Region, and in fact,
deppending on the volume, there are more or less differences in relation to
the volumes published by the Santa Barbara Museum, which should always be
the cited ones. For instance, Volume 7 of the present reports does not
include families like Oweniidae, Scalibregmatidae and a few more.
The only reason why I post this here is because someone told me in the last
IPC that the Santa Barbara Museum publications were sold out, and because I
think that the present reports can be helpful to make identifications.
Anyway, maybe the Santa Barbara Museum can make a new edition of the sold
out volumes, if there are many requests. It could be also a way to show that
taxonomy and taxonomic products do have a great demand and users.
