Dear Geoff,
I have just been staring at some microfiches in our library -
we should have the actual volumes in our store at Wandsworth.
I believe that the "R. Istituto di Studi Superiori Pratici e di
Perfezionamento in Firenze; Sezione di Scienze Fisiche e Naturali"
published (and bound together when appropriate?) various papers over the
years, and one series (published from 1906 to at least 1928) was called
If I am correct, then you have a choice of citation methods:-
As a paper in a serial publication:
Rosa, D. 1908. Anellidi - Parte I. Tomopteridi. Raccolte planctoniche
Abruzzi 1(5):245-327.
As a chapter in a book:
Rosa, D. 1908. Anellidi - Parte I. Tomopteridi. IN [Editor's name]
Firenze. Volume I, Fascicolo V, pp.245-327.
If you treat it as a book, I'm not sure who the editor was - it could
have been the Duke himself. Treating it as a paper in a serial
publication would, however, be (a bit) shorter and sweeter.
Now for an Italian to prove me wrong ... ...,

Subject: [Annelida] Checking Rosa 1908 on Tomopteris
Greetings,
We are checking some information on our Tomopteris species entries for
the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS). Is there anyone who has
access to an original of Rosa (1908) and thus could help us?
Rosa, Daniele.
S.A.R. Tomopteridi.
Also one of the things we want to check is the correct way to formulate
the citation. The "Raccolte planctoniche" group of papers appeared in a
journal with a very long title, rarely spelled out in full, but I am
hoping it is this one: "Pubblicazioni del R. Istituto di Studi Superiori
Pratici e di Perfezionamento in Firenze; Sezione di Scienze Fisiche e
Naturali."
I hope someone can help. And if anyone has an interest in holoplanktonic
polychaete taxonomy & would like to be the WORMS editor for Tomopteridae
don't hesitate to get in touch.
Thanks,
Geoff Read
