The Sugar Bears 33 1/3rd
One of my very first records as a kid was this super cool, 5 song, 33 1/3rd, full fidelity, cardboard Sugar Bears record that you cut right off the back of a Post Super Sugar Crisp cereal box. Sugar Bear was certainly the smoothest and funniest of all cereal mascots back in the day (though Sugar Crisp wasn't exactly was favorite cereal), and his mellow Dean Martin meets Bing Crosby sing song voice and laid back attitude was always hysterical against nemeses like Granny Good Witch or The Blob, (take a look at these amazing, vintage, animated commercials HERE and HERE for examples!) None of the old time crooner personality vibe is to be found on this collection of fun and very catchy bubble gum pop songs though-- in fact, these tunes actually sound more like The Archies or Cattanooga Cats! And yay-- someone was nice enough to post some of the songs on youtube so I didn't have to!

1.) Love-You're a Long Time Comin'
2.) You are the One
3.) Feather Balloon
4.) Happiness Train
5.) Anyone But You

The Art of Grilling, Baking, and BBQing
We've been on a major food kick here for the last few posts, and there's no better guide to get your stomach a'howlin' than this one from Duncan Hines featuring some all-time favorite recipes-- or, in our case here at AEET-- the fabulous tiny bits of 50's key art sprinkled throughout. And like with our last booklet, this is just a small sampling of illustrations featured within, there are lots more awaiting you in your own copy at an antique mall or ebay seller near you ;) (no art credit)

The Co-ed Cookbook '67
A bevy of co-ed cuties (illustrated by Edward Garvey) highlight The Co-ed Cookbook by Henrietta Fleck, a fantastically fun 'n frisky late 60's cookbook from Scholastic. I've included every big-eyed girl from every chapter heading inside, but man there are seriously TONS more illustrations included of food and other assorted kitchen kitsch --you'll just have to buy yourself a copy to see it all, and to get all the delicious recipes and delectable ideas too!

Chicken-N-Que
With Xmas in July finally behind us, it's time to get back to the regularly scheduled AEET programs, and let's fire up the grill once more-- cuz brutha it's BBQ time!!! Mazola's Chick-N-Que Cue Book from 1960 is loaded with tasty recipes, everything from sides, salads, main courses, and dessert ideas-- PLUS super artwork! (fyi: the last image illo of me BBQ'ing is from Low Cost Luxury BBQ Recipes with Adolphs, 1956.) Don't stuff yourself, man-- there's more coming up!

Xmas in July, Day 31: ALIEN Ornament
This year Hallmark introduces a handful of cool and horrific new xmas tree "Keepsake" ornaments: Frankenstein, Godzilla, Jaws, etc. ---but best of all, to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the sci-fi horror film classic ALIEN, they're unleashing this completely bad ass Big Chap xenomorph to terrorize grandparents and tots for the 2014 season! I will most certainly be adorning my tree with one. In stores October! Click HERE for more information.
Hope everyone enjoyed AEET's 2014 Xmas in July! :)

Xmas in July, Day 30: Kiddie Korner
From the Kiddie Korner pages of Montgomery Wards 1971 Christmas Catalog, we've got our sweet tooth primed and ready for some sugary neat treats: foil wrapped milk chocolates, icing coated gingerbread houses, candy canes, Disney character Pez, and gum balls from our very own gum ball machine! More than anything though, I'd like to get my mitts in/on those awesome xmas themed lollipop packed puppets-- especially the snowman, but the reindeer is pretty "cool" too!
