Spectrum Supportability Determination

A Spectrum Supportability (SS) Determination is required for all systems and equipment that use the electromagnetic spectrum in the U.S. and in other host nations. It’s required at Milestone B and C. This written determination shall be completed with the concurrence of the DoD Component or Component Chief Information Officer (CIO), and state whether there is reasonable assurance of SS. Efforts to obtain SS should be initiated as early as possible during the Technology Development (TD) Phase for spectrum-dependent equipment or systems.

The Spectrum Supportability Process will be applicable to all equipment or systems that require the utilization of the electromagnetic spectrum, and will be composed of:

  • Equipment Spectrum Certification
  • Host Nation Supportability Assessment
  • Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) Assessment
