Travis has been a tech writer at wikiHow for more than 10 years and is a self-taught techie. As a child, Travis took an interest in electronics and built circuits from schematics. He then got into video games and developed an interest in game design. He started reading his mom's textbooks about C++ and coding. He began modding and building levels for DOOM. As a teenager, Travis started playing guitar and began learning about guitar effects and audio processing. After high school, he took a couple of years of general ed courses at the University of Northern Colorado before going on to work tech support for both AT&T Wireless and Dish Network. He also became active as a moderator on internet message boards in the early 2000s, where he developed writing skills as well as skills in social media, HTML, CSS, Flash, photo editing, and 3D modeling. He also took an interest in Linux and open-source software. In 2011, Travis took classes in graphic design at Pikes Peak Community College to learn Adobe software
