WBUR unveils new schedule and production team
Make sense of your day with expanded Morning Edition and Here & Now, new times for BBC NewsHour and On Point.
In an ambitious programming move, WBUR, Boston's NPR, will debut a new broadcast lineup with a reimagined approach to local coverage. WBUR will keep people informed and engaged throughout the day with changes that include an extended Morning Edition, new show times for BBC NewsHour and On Point, and an emphasis on original, local journalism across both audio and digital platforms.
To power this transformation, WBUR will create an agile production team focused on timely coverage of the most pressing and interesting local issues. To do this, WBUR will sunset production of Radio Boston on Friday, December 20, marking the end of an impressive 15-year run for the program. This is a strategic move. WBUR is redeploying its Radio Boston resources, and not cutting any staff.
"The exceptional work of the Radio Boston team will continue, but in a new way that goes beyond the confines of an hour-long daily radio show," said Dan Mauzy, executive editor of WBUR's local newsroom. "This shift is a more contemporary approach to daily journalism — and will fuel our public news service throughout the day and across platforms."
Yasmin Amer, current executive producer of Radio Boston, will lead the new agile production team. She says "this team is made up of newsroom colleagues who know how to produce highly relevant and engaging local coverage. I see this as an opportunity to produce even more high-quality journalism and to meet audiences where they are."
Rebalancing the weekday schedule, the new lineup brings national and international shows together while supercharging local news throughout the day and on WBUR's digital platforms.
Highlights of the new WBUR broadcast schedule include:
- Morning Edition: Hosted by Tiziana Dearing, WBUR and NPR's flagship show will deliver local, national and global stories weekdays from 5 a.m. – 10 a.m.
- BBC NewsHour: Moves to 10 a.m. for coverage of international news.
- On Point: Shifts to 11 a.m, a daily plunge into consequential national and global issues with Meghna Chakrabarti.
- Here & Now: Adds an updated hour at 3 p.m., creating a seamless lead-in to All Things Considered.
