6 Types of Household Revenue
The number of households with a pension/annuity as their main source of revenue has increased sharply since 1990.
- A breakdown of types of household revenue shows that households depending mainly on wages/salaries were the largest in number at 29,528,550 households (63.1 percent of private households), followed by those depending mainly on a pension/annuity at 8,871,488 households (19.0 percent), and those depending mainly on revenue from business other than agriculture at 3,612,099 households (7.7 percent). Of these, the number of households depending mainly on a pension/annuity increased by 4,055,277 households, or 84.2 percent, a sharp increase from ten years previously in 1990.
- A breakdown of major household revenue by type of family and type of revenue shows that wages/salaries had the highest ratio for all types of family, however both households consisting of a married couple only and one-person households, for which a pension/annuity is a major source of revenue, maintain high ratios of wages/salaries at 39.6 percent and 21.9 percent, respectively. Also, in the category of "Other relatives families," the ratios of revenue from non-agriculture and agriculture were high at 12.3 percent and 6.5 percent, respectively.
- A breakdown by prefecture of the rate of increase in the number of households dependent mainly on a pension/annuity showed a rise for all prefectures. Ten prefectures, namely Saitama, Chiba, Kanagawa, Aichi, Shizuoka, Ibaraki, Gifu, Nara, Tochigi and Shiga, showed an increase of over 100 percent. This increase is concentrated on prefectures adjacent to major cities.
