Image and PDF tools that never upload your files

Every tool here runs inside the browser tab you are reading this in. Your files are opened by your own machine, worked on by your own machine, and saved back to your own machine. There is no server in the middle, which is why there is no sign-up, no queue and no file size limit beyond what your computer can hold.

Why nothing is uploaded

Browsers gained the ability to decode, redraw and re-encode files locally years ago. Once that is true, sending a private document to a stranger's server to have 40 kilobytes shaved off it stops making sense. It is slower, and it means trusting somebody with a file you had no reason to share.

Sized for real limits

Most compression tools ask for a quality percentage and tell you afterwards what you got. The tools here work the other way round, because the constraint people actually face is a number on a form: under 50 KB, at least 100 KB, exactly 35 by 45 millimetres.

An older domain

pythonware.com published the Python Imaging Library and its documentation for many years. Those pages are kept in the archive. The tools are new; the interest in pushing pixels around is not.
