In addition to using pinhole cameras, I've been drawn to other "alternative" photographic approaches, such as working with toy cameras like the Holga or the Diana. From some of these negatives I have made enlarged, digital transparencies so I could print them using layers of gum bichromate over cyanotype. I have used cyanotype on fabric for some 3-D projects. Other techniques I've worked with include Van Dyke brown, Polaroid lifts, anthotypes, and lumen prints. A few samples are below.
Gum bichromate over cyanotype print of a Waffle House in Elkton, Maryland, 2009.
Van Dyke brown print of my daughter and her dog, using a digitally enlarged negative from a 4 x 5 Polaroid original.
Pillow sewn from cyanotype on silk, contact printed with Holga negatives of sex shops along the Rue St. Denis, Paris.
Cyanotype on silk, sewn into a small handbag. The print is collages press clippings about my work, inspired by fabric by Elsa Schiaparelli.
Archival inkjet print on silk, sewn into a camisol.
Pleasure, Brighton, 2009, a gum bichromate over cyanotype print of a carousel from a toy camera negative.
