Activities and Results
For Mongolia, since the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) dispatched experts in 2004, legal technical assistance activities have been carried out continuously, and the International Cooperation Department has supported the nation-wide implementation of the project to strengthen the mediation system that began in May 2010 through participation in project committees and dispatching professors of the International Cooperation Department as short-term experts. The International Cooperation Department is currently examining what kind of support activities to advance for Mongolia in the future.
For Mongolia, since JICA dispatched experts in 2004, legal technical assistance activities have been carried out continuously. From May 2010 to July 2015, the Project for Strengthening the Mediation System, which aims to introduce the mediation system in civil and family affairs cases, and the Project (Phase 2), which supports the nationwide introduction of the mediation system following the enactment of the Mediation Act in May 2012, were implemented. ICD cooperated in the implementation of these projects by attending their subcommittees and dispatching professors as short-term experts. Since 2018, ICD has been assisting the development of commercial law-related regulations in Mongolia by inviting officials from the Mongolian Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs and others to Japan to conduct joint research related to commercial law.
Furthermore, in August 2021, the RTI (Research and Training Institute) of the Ministry of Justice signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the National Legal Institute (NLI) of Mongolia on human resource development in the field of law and justice. Based on this, collaboration and cooperation between the two institutions have been strengthened such as implementing an online workshop in October of the same year.
