On June 22, 2021, Minister Kamikawa participated in the high-level session of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) 2021 Annual Meeting on Rule of Law and Human Rights.
The overall theme of this meeting was “People Centered Approaches to Rule of Law, Security and Human Rights”. In her video statement, Minister Kamikawa stated that a people-centered approach to the rule of law is a key to overcoming today’s global challenges and to achieving the 2030 Agenda. She also stressed the important role of the youth in establishing robust social and cultural foundations for the rule of law, and introduced “The Global Youth Forum for a Culture of Lawfulness”, which Japan will organize starting this year, as a part of its efforts to implement the Kyoto Declaration, unanimously adopted at the Kyoto Congress.
