1 Cash Earnings

Average monthly total cash earnings per regular employee in October 2000 were 289,467 yen increased by 0.9% compared with a year earlier .

Contractual cash earnings were 285,031 yen increased by 1.1% and scheduled cash earnings were 265,827 yen increased by 0.8%.

Real wage index was increased by 2.0%.

2 Hours Worked

Average monthly total hours worked per regular employee in October 2000 were 156.8 hours increased by 1.3% compared with a year earlier.

Scheduled hours worked were 146.8 hours increased by 1.3%.

Non-scheduled hours worked in Manufacturing were 10.0 hours increased by 3.1% and its seasonally adjusted figure was increased by 0.2% from the previous month.

3 Employment

Regular employees in October 2000 were decreased by 0.1% compared with a year earlier, full-time employees were decreased by 0.9%, part-time employees were increased by 3.5%.

Regular employees of major industries were as follows:decreased by 1.2% in Manufacturing, decreased by 0.8% in Wholesale and Retail Trade, Eating and Drinking Places, and increased by 2.0% in Services.
