1 Cash Earnings

Average monthly total cash earnings per regular employee in April 2000 were 291,911 yen increased by 0.6% compared with a year earlier .

Contractual cash earnings were 285,893 yen increased by 1.0% and scheduled cash earnings were 266,352 yen increased by 0.7%.

Real wage index was increased by 1.5%.

2 Hours Worked

Average monthly total hours worked per regular employee in April 2000 were 159.8 hours increased by 0.2% compared with a year earlier.

Scheduled hours worked were 149.6 hours same as the same month of the previous year.

Non-scheduled hours worked in Manufacturing were 14.0 hours increased by 14.7% and its seasonally adjusted figure was decreased by 1.3% from the previous month.

3 Employment

Regular employees in April 2000 were decreased by 0.4% compared with a year earlier, full-time employees were decreased by 1.2%, part-time employees were increased by 3.5%.

Regular employees of major industries were as follows:decreased by 1.9% in Manufacturing, decreased by 1.4% in Wholesale and Retail Trade, Eating and Drinking Places, and increased by 1.7% in Services.
