1 Cash Earnings

Average monthly total cash earnings per regular employees in October 1999 were 286,778 yen same as the same month of a year earlier .

Contractual cash earnings were 282,163 yen increased by 0.1% and scheduled cash earnings was 263,830 yen decreased by 0.1%.

Real wage index was increased by 0.8%.

2 Hours Worked

Average monthly total hours worked per regular employees in October 1999 were 154.6 hours decreased by 3.3% compared with a year earlier.

Scheduled hours worked were 144.9 hours decreased by 3.5%.

Non-scheduled hours worked in Manufacturing were 13.0 hours increased by 5.7% and its seasonally adjusted figure was decreased by 0.7% from the previous month.

3 Employment

Regular employees in October 1999 were decreased by 0.2% compared with a year earlier, full-time employees were decreased by 1.1%, part-time employees were increased by 3.7%.

Regular employees of major industries were as follows:decreased 2.1% in Manufacturing, decreased by 1.3% in Wholesale and Retail Trade, Eating and Drinking Places, and increased by 1.7% in Services.
