Average monthly total cash earnings per regular employee of establishments with 5 or more regular employees in September 1999 were 285,460 yen increased by 0.6% compared with a year earlier.

Contractual cash earnings were 281,201 yen increased by 0.5% and scheduled cash earnings were 263,735 yen increased by 0.2%.

Real wage index was increased by 0.9%.

2 Hours Worked

Average monthly total hours worked per regular employee of establishments with 5 or more regular employees in September 1999 were 153.9 hours decreased by 0.2% compared with a year earlier .

Scheduled hours worked were 144.5 hours decreased by 0.3%.

Non-scheduled hours worked in Manufacturing were 12.8 hours increased by 7.7% and its seasonally adjusted figure was increased by 2.0% from the previous month.

3 Employment

Regular employees of establishments with 5 or more regular employees in September 1999 were decreased by 0.1% compared with a year earlier, full-time employees were decreased by 0.9%, part-time employees were increased by 3.2%.

Regular employees of major industries were as follows: decreased by 2.1% in Manufacturing, decreased by 1.4% in Wholesale and Retail Trade, Eating and Drinking Places, and increased by 2.1% in Services.
