Average monthly total cash earnings per regular employee of establishments with 5 or more regular employees in July 1999 were 436,890 yen decreased by 2.1% compared with a year earlier.

Contractual cash earnings were 281,751 yen increased by 0.1% and scheduled cash earnings was 264,080 yen decreased by 0.1%.

Real wage indices were decreased by 2.0%.

2 Hours Worked

Average monthly total hours worked per regular employee of establishments with 5 or more regular employees in July 1999 were 158.0 hours decreased by 1.3% compared with a year earlier .

Scheduled hours worked were 148.7 hours decreased by 1.3%.

Non-scheduled hours worked in manufacturing were 12.1 hours increased by 2.6%. And seasonally adjusted figures were increased by 2.8% from the previous month.

3 Employment

Regular employees of establishments with 5 or more regular employees in July 1999 were decreased by 0.4% compared with a year earlier, full-time employees were decreased by 1.2%, part-time employees were increased by 3.0%.

Regular employees of major industries were as follows: decreased by 2.3% in Manufacturing, decreased by 1.3% in Wholesale and Retail Trade, Eating and Drinking Places, and increased by 2.0% in Services.
