Average monthly total cash earnings per a regular employee of establishments with 5 or more regular employees in May 1999 were 284,624 yen decreased by 0.1% from the same month of the previous year.

Contractual cash earnings were 279,285 yen decreased by 0.3% and scheduled cash earnings were 261,970 yen decreased by 0.4%.

Real wage indices were increased by 0.4%.

2 Hours Worked

Average monthly total hours worked per a regular employee of establishments with 5 or more regular employees in May 1999 were 145.8 hours decreased by 2.4% from the same month of the previous year .

Scheduled hours worked were 136.7 hours decreased by 2.3%.

Non-scheduled hours worked in manufacturing were 11.3 hours increased by 0.1%. And seasonally adjusted figures were increased by 2.9% from the previous month.

3 Employment

Average employment of regular employees of establishments with 5 or more regular employees in May 1999 were decreased by 0.4% from the same month of the previous year , full-time employees were decreased by 1.1% from the same month of the previous year, part-time employees were increased by 3.9% from the same month of the previous year.

Average employment of regular employees by main industries were decreased 2.4% in Manufacturing, decreased by 0.7% in Wholesale and Retail Trade, Eating and Drinking Places, and increased by 1.6% in Services.
