Contractual cash earnings were 277,724 yen decreased by 0.2% and scheduled cash earnings were 260,295 yen same as the same month of the previous year.

Real wage indices were decreased by 3.7%.

2 Hours Worked

Average monthly total hours worked per a regular employees of establishments with 5 or more regular employees in January 1999 were 140.6 hours decreased by 0.7% from the same month of the previous year .

Scheduled hours worked were 131.7 hours decreased by 0.2%.

Non-scheduled hours worked in manufacturing were 10.6 hours decreased by 10.9%. And seasonally adjusted figures were increased by 3.7% from the previous month.

3 Employment

Average employment of regular employees of establishments with 5 or more regular employees in January 1999 were decreased by 0.2% from the same month of the previous year , full-time employees were decreased by 1.0%, part-time employees were increased by 3.0%.

Average employment of regular employees by main industries were decreased 2.2% in Manufacturing, decreased by 0.2% in Wholesale and Retail Trade, Eating and Drinking Place, and increased by 1.5% in Services.
