1 Cash Earnings

Average monthly total cash earnings per a regular employee of establishments with 5 or more regular employees in October 1998 were 293,306 yen decreased by 0.1% from the same month of the previous year .

Contractual cash earnings were 288,253 yen decreased by 0.3% and scheduled cash earnings were 270,172 yen increased by 0.2%.

Real wage indices were decreased by 0.3%.

2 Hours Worked

Average monthly total hours worked per a regular employee of establishments with 5 or more regular employees in October 1998 were 160.8 hours increased by 0.1% from the same month of the previous year .

Scheduled hours worked were 151.2 hours increased by 0.6%.

Non-scheduled hours worked in manufacturing were 9.6 hours decreased by 7.7%. And seasonally adjusted figures were increased by 0.9% from the previous month.

3 Employment

Average employment of regular employees of establishments with 5 or more regular employees in October 1998 were decreased by 0.4% from the same month of the previous year, full-time employees were decreased by 1.0%, part-time employees were increased by 2.8%.

Average employment of regular employees by main industries were decreased 2.1% in Manufacturing, decreased by 0.8% in Wholesale and Retail Trade, Eating and Drinking Place, and increased by 1.9% in Services.
