1 Cash Earnings

Average monthly total cash earnings per a regular employee of establishments with 5 or more regular employees in September 1998 were 290,052 yen decreased by 0.7% from the same month of the previous year .

Contractual cash earnings were 286,402 yen decreased by 0.7% and scheduled cash earnings were 269,232 yen decreased by 0.1%.

Real wage indices were decreased by 0.5%.

2 Hours Worked

Average monthly total hours worked per a regular employee of establishments with 5 or more regular employees in September 1998 were 155.1 hours decreased by 1.8% from the same month of the previous year .

Scheduled hours worked were 145.9 hours decreased by 1.3%.

Non-scheduled hours worked in manufacturing were 11.8 hours decreased by 16.3%. And seasonally adjusted figures were decreased by 1.1% from the previous month.

3 Employment

Average employment of regular employees of establishments with 5 or more regular employees in September 1998 were decreased by 0.3% from the same month of the previous year, full-time employees were decreased by 1.2%, part-time employees were increased by 4.3%.

Average employment of regular employees by main industries were decreased 1.8% in Manufacturing, decreased by 0.7% in Wholesale and Retail Trade, Eating and Drinking Place, and increased by 1.7% in Services.
