Contractual cash earnings were 285,884 yen decreased by 0.4% and scheduled cash earnings were 268,673 yen increased by 0.2%.

Real wage indices were decreased by 1.9%.

2 Hours Worked

Average monthly total hours worked per a regular employee of establishments with 5 or more regular employees in August 1998 were 149.3 hours decreased by 0.2% from the same month of the previous year .

Scheduled hours worked were 140.3 hours increased by 0.3%.

Non-scheduled hours worked in manufacturing were 11.1 hours decreased by 16.5%. And seasonally adjusted figures were increased by 1.2% from the previous month.

3 Employment

Average employment of regular employees of establishments with 5 or more regular employees in August 1998 were decreased by 0.1% from the same month of the previous year , full-time employees were decreased by 1.0%, part-time employees were increased by 4.7%.

Average employment of regular employees by main industries were decreased 1.6% in Manufacturing, decreased by 0.6% in Wholesale and Retail Trade, Eating and Drinking Place, and increased by 1.8% in Services.
