From 28 to 31 March 2023, experts from International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) laboratories visited TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (FDNPS) to assess and confirm the capabilities of TEPCO's on-site analytical facilities for radionuclides.

A team of experts from IAEA laboratories visited TEPCO's FDNPS and conducted on-site observations of the analytical facilities at the nuclear power station to gather additional information relevant to the IAEA’s independent sampling, data corroboration, and analytical activities, as part of the ongoing IAEA review of safety-related aspects of ALPS treated water.

The IAEA team and TEPCO held discussions regarding the appropriateness of the radionuclide analysis methods to be utilized at the analysis facility. The IAEA team examined relevant documents and data from representative samples that were collected and analyzed by TEPCO for the purposes of both monitoring the characterization of ALPS treated water (source monitoring) and environmental monitoring.

With the findings from the IAEA review, Japan will continue to take measures in accordance with international safety standards and take all possible measures to ensure safety.
