On February 22 (Wed.), Mr. Nishimura Yasutoshi, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, received a courtesy call from a Delegation of the U.S.-Japan Legislative Exchange Program.

On February 22 (Wed.), Mr. Nishimura Yasutoshi, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, received a courtesy call from a Delegation of the U.S.-Japan Legislative Exchange Program (Congressman French Hill, Congressman Mark Takano, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost).
As the delegation members visited Fukushima during their stay in Japan, Minister Nishimura explained the current status of Fukushima reconstruction and the decommissioning of TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. Confirming the importance of Japan-U.S. cooperation, Minister Nishimura exchanged views on issues of mutual interest particularly related to the economy and energy, including the Inflation Reduction Act passed by the U.S. Congress last summer. Minister Nishimura expressed his expectations for continuous support from the U.S. Congress for the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.
Prior to the meeting, the Congress members received a briefing from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) on the status of Fukushima reconstruction and the decommissioning of TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station including ALPS treated water on February 20. The members visited Fukushima on February 21 to see TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.
