On August 23, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) held the fifth meeting of the Japan-Vietnam Joint Committee on Cooperation in Industry, Trade and Energy, with METI Minister Nishimura and H.E. Mr. Nguyen Hong Dien, Vietnam's Minister of Industry and Trade, serving as co-chairs. In the meeting, the two ministers confirmed that they will further develop the economic relations between the two countries, and agreed to issue a joint ministerial statement and a fact sheet.

Outline of the meeting

In the Japan-Vietnam Joint Committee on Cooperation in Industry, Trade and Energy's meetings to date, the two countries have discussed a wide range of issues toward cooperation on industry, trade, and energy. In its fifth meeting—held in the run-up to the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries next year—they confirmed that they will further strengthen bilateral cooperation toward such goals as strengthening supply chain resilience, utilizing digital technologies, and achieving energy transitions, based on the Asia-Japan Investing for the Future Initiative (AJIF) , which METI announced in January.

Issuing of a joint ministerial statement and a fact sheet

With a view to further strengthening the economic relations between Japan and Vietnam, the two ministers confirmed the directions their cooperation should take, and agreed to issue a joint ministerial statement and a fact sheet in the meeting.
