On July 7, 2022, Minister Hagiuda met with the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Canadian Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, during his visit to Japan.

Given the changing international order and growing uncertainty about the future of the global economy due to the situation in Ukraine, the two ministers confirmed that their respective governments—which share common values—will further cooperate in the fields of digitalization, automobiles, and technical cooperation.

Specifically, Minister Hagiuda mentioned strengthening collaboration in the G7 and other frameworks to achieve DFFT (Data Free Flow with Trust), the importance of decarbonizing the automobile sector and building a resilient and sustainable supply chain, promoting research cooperation between Japan's National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) and the National Research Council Canada (NRC), and the importance of Japan-Canada collaboration to ensure a stable energy supply.
