Minister Hagiuda Holds Video Conference with Mr. Hardeep Singh Puri, India's Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs

On June 23 (Thu.), Mr. Hagiuda Koichi, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, held a video conference with Mr. Hardeep Singh Puri, India's Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs. The two ministers discussed global energy situation and, as representatives of two energy-consuming countries, they confirmed the importance of bilateral cooperation to encourage oil-producing countries to increase their production. They also touched on working together to achieve energy transitions that strike a balance between ensuring energy security and responding to climate change.
At this meeting, the ministers confirmed the importance of energy security and investing upstream in petroleum and LNG as events like Russia's invasion of Ukraine are significantly changing the world's energy situation. They both shared their concern on high energy pricesand, as representatives of consumer countries, agreed that they should cooperate to encourage oil-producing countries to increase their production.
They also confirmed the importance of energy transitions that strike a balance between sufficiently ensuring energy security and responding to climate change, and the two agreed that their countries would work together to advocate for using LNG and natural gas as transition fuels and decarbonization technologies such as hydrogen and CCS.
