2025年度英語による授業を行うためのFD研修の実施について/Holding "FD Trainings for Teaching in English" for the 2025 Academic Year

国際連携本部では、外国人留学生受入の推進や、英語学位コースの拡充等、本学の国際化推進に向けた取組事業の一環として「英語による授業を行うためのFD研修」を実施しています。

*EMIとは

English-Medium Instruction(英語を媒介とする授業)。国民の大多数が英語を母国語としない国で、(英語以外の)学問を教えるために英語を使用すること。

The Headquarters of International Collaboration at Meiji University is conducting "FD Training for Teaching in English" as part of our initiatives to promote the acceptance of international students, expand English degree programs, and further the internationalization of our university.

For the 2025 academic year, we plan to hold five sessions, as follows:

Session 1 (June) "Let’s Get Real About Teaching in English: EMI Roundtable Part 1" [Already Held]

Session 2 (July) "Let’s Try Teaching in English: EMI Workshop for Beginners Part 1" [Already Held]

Session 3 (November) "Let’s Get Real About Teaching in English: EMI Roundtable Part 2"[Cancellation]

Session 4 (January) "Let’s Learn from Experts in English: Interactive Webinar for EMI Practice"

Session 5 (February) "Let’s Try Teaching in English: EMI Workshop for Beginners Part 2"

— What is EMI? —

EMI (English-medium Instruction) refers to the use of the English language to teach academic subjects, typically other than English itself, in countries where the first language of the majority of the population is not English.

目的:EMI(英語による授業)の重要性を再認識し、授業実践や直面している課題について教員同士で議論を深めること

Objective: To reaffirm the importance of EMI (English-Medium Instruction) and deepen discussions among faculty regarding classroom practices and challenges.
Date: Saturday, November 15, 2025 Time: 10:00 – 11:30 (1.5 hours)
Format: Online Language: Japanese Capacity: 30 participants
Target Participants:
- Those who wish to reflect on their past EMI teaching experiences
- Those who want to share their own teaching practices and challenges with peers
- Those seeking hints for solving their challenges through discussion
Content:
1. Introduction of EMI-related topics
2. Tips and challenges for EMI practice
3. Group discussions
4. Wrap-up

第2回「英語で教えてみませんか?〜EMI初心者のためのワークショップ Part 1〜」/Session 2: "Let’s Try Teaching in English: EMI Workshop for Beginners Part 1"

講師:吉中昌國氏(株式会社EdulinX)
目的:各分野の授業を英語で実施するために必要な工夫について考えること
日程:2025年 7月30日(水)
時間:13:00〜16:30 (3時間半)
形式:オンライン使用言語:日本語定員:15名
対象者:初心者及び未経験者向け
分野を問わず授業を英語で実施する予定の方
英語による授業のご経験があり、基礎的な内容を復習したい方
内容:
インタラクティブ(双方向)なワークショップです。複数のブレイクアウトルームに分かれて、英語で教えることについての考えを他の参加者と共有し、互いの発想や工夫から学んでいきます。授業の場面を想定したアクティビティは英語で、授業についてのディスカッションは日本語で行います。

オリエンテーション
1.授業で使う英語とは?
ノンネイティブとしての心構え/ブロークン・イングリッシュは通じるか?
2.最初のセッション
自己紹介をする/専門分野を選んだ理由を語る
3.学生を巻き込むコツ
静かな学生に発言させる工夫は?/学生が発言しない理由/学生のやる気を促すひと言

Instructor: Mr. Masakuni Yoshinaka (EdulinX Inc.)
Objective: To explore effective strategies for teaching subject content in English
Date: Wednesday, July 30, 2025 Time: 13:00 – 16:30 (3.5 hours)
Format: Online Language: Japanese Capacity: 15 participants
Target Participants: Instructors with no prior EMI experience and those planning to begin teaching in English
Content:
This is an interactive workshop. Participants will be divided into breakout rooms to share thoughts on teaching in English and learn from each other’s ideas and strategies.Activities simulating classroom settings will be conducted in English, while discussions about teaching methods will be in Japanese.

Orientation:
1. What kind of English is used in class?
- Mindset as a non-native speaker of English
- Is "broken English" effective?
2. First Session:
- Introducing yourself / Talking about why you chose your field
3. Tips to Engage Students:
- How to encourage quiet students to speak
- Reasons students stay silent
- Motivational phrases to encourage participation
