くろまるCertification of Tourist Information CentersNationwide networks of high quality tourist information centersJNTO certifies tourist information centers to ensure that international travelers have a comfortable stay in Japan. The number of certified tourist information centers in Japan has now reached 1,516(as of the end of April 2023), and we provide various forms of support for them. Specifically, these are: •Telephone interpretation services in Korean, Chinese, and English•Providing a manual for dealing with international travelers at tourist information centers, as well as other materials created by JNTO•Holding seminars for tourist information centers to improve their service quality(e.g. foreign language and hospitality lessons, as well as seminars on how to strengthen networks with other centers).•Sharing information for overseas audiences about certified tourist information centers in Japan By enhancing the quality of tourist information centers through these projects, we aim to improve the satisfaction level of international visitors during their stay in Japan. くろまるResponding to inquiries from international travelersProviding 24/7 emergency supportIt is critical to be able to provide immediate support via phone, etc. in the event of accidents, disasters and other emergencies. To provide support to international travelers outside of our tourist information centers, we operate the ‘Japan Visitor Hotline’ 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This service provides information ranging from general travel guidance to assistance in the case of illness, disasters and other emergencies, and is available in English, Chinese and Korean.くろまるDissemination of information to international travelersInformation dissemination via the web and social mediaWe have our own account on Twitter and Weibo, ‘Japan Safe Travel’, where we provide information to help international travelers have a safe, smooth trip, including natural disaster-related alerts and warnings, transport delay information, and warnings related to infectious diseases and heatstroke. As the acting organization of the Japan Tourism Agency, JNTO operates the National Licensed Guide Interpreter examination on an annual basis.
