"The ITU Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU-D) marks its 25th Anniversary this year. ITU-D was established in 1992 by the Additional Plenipotentiary Conference that was held in Geneva. Over the past 25 years, the Sector has immensely contributed to the rapid growth and expansion of telecommunication/ICT networks and services. Telecommunications/ICTs are helping to expand and improve access to government services, health care, education, agricultural services, financial and banking services, and market information. Telecommunications/ICTs are changing peoples' lives for the better and are empowering millions of people around the world to enhance their social and economic well-being. Today, Telecommunications/ICTs play a pivotal role in promoting sustainable development going a long way in helping countries attain the Sustainable Development Goals.
