Port state control

The Isle of Man flag is recognised by the world’s Port State Control Authorities as a flag of quality and we maintain good relations with PSC offices globally. Our ships suffer detentions very rarely. Should a ship be detained by Port State Control, the owner or manager is required to notify and supply details of the detention to the duty Principal Surveyor.

In the event a ship is detained, and if we consider such a detention warranted, we will send a surveyor out to the vessel as swiftly as possible to investigate the issues raised. Costs for such visits are borne by the owner or manager.

If we consider the detention unwarranted, we will not visit the vessel but will take the matter up with the appropriate authority with a view to having the detention record removed.

PSC Statistics

PSC Statistics are routinely published in our Port State Control Notices.
