You’ve probably seen a Power Star near the bottom of the deep end below the ship. The star is amidst a current that prevents you from reaching it. Though it is possible to get the star by trying to swim through the current. The simplest way is to use the Metal Cap.

From the front of the beach, swim over to the small stretch of sand on the right side of the cave - it’s just past the floating wooden platform near the Bob-omb Buddy. In the corner of this little sandbar is a column of coins. Walk over to them and backflip onto the stone platform. Hit the green!-Block to get the Metal Cap.

As Metal Mario, long jump into the deep end of the water and steer your descent toward the jet stream and the Power Star at the bottom.
