Legion is the fourth boss in Saros, located near the end of the Blighted Marsh biome, and is a flying tentacled creature swarmed by smaller creatures that use their bodies to defend it. So how do you defeat it?
This page acts as a comprehensive breakdown of how to defeat the Legion boss in Saros, including what happens once you beat it.
How to Defeat Legion in Saros
Tip:
If you fire your Power Weapon or Overdrive at Legion and hit it whilst it's in the middle of an attack, you can actually disrupt what would be the following attack in the pattern. This will give you a very brief reprieve if you need it to refocus or reposition Arjun to continue.
Legion - Phase 1
As Legion spawns in, you’ll see that dozens of smaller tentacled creatures spawn in with it and swarm around Legion itself. They will act as "meat shields" throughout the fight to protect Legion from taking damage.
Legion Damage Note:
Keep in mind that dealing damage to, and killing, the smaller creatures will not affect Legion's health bar. You will need to damage the larger, red glowing entity to damage and kill the boss. While you can shoot the smaller enemies to destroy them and expose Legion, they will continually respawn so it’s futile to focus on them alone.
As Legion flies around, its supporting creatures will rhythmically fire out homing yellow projectiles that have a wide arc. Keep moving to avoid them, but be aware they have a tendency of trailing behind you instead of colliding with the floor, so keep your head on a swivel.
These supporting creatures can also form separate circles around Legion, exposing it to taking immediate damage. The trade off is that the inner circle will fire homing blue projectiles, and the outer circle will fire (mildly) homing nova projectiles. If you dash to the sides, you can evade these entirely - though you can risk trying to absorb the blue projectiles while avoiding the red.
Legion can also crunch up into a much tighter ball, where it will then begin rhythmically firing out nova projectiles that partially home in. The number of projectiles is intimidating, but if you rush as far away from Legion’s position as you can, then the projectiles will dissipate before they reach you (positioning dependent) so you can just continue firing and get some free hits in.
The supporting creatures can also fly down toward you and form a circle that surrounds you (and moves with you). They will then all at once repeatedly fire nova projectiles inward toward you; you’ll want to jump just as the red lights on their heads flash to avoid each round of shots.
Legion - Phase 2
After depleting Legion’s first health bar, Phase 2 will begin. This phase is much like Phase 1, with all the same attacks returning but slightly faster. In terms of new attacks, the smaller creatures can form the shape of a star around Legion, with each of the 5 "arms" of the star firing off nova projectiles in your direction one after the other. These aren’t homing, so staying mobile and dashing when/if required is more than sufficient.
Power Weapons and Overdrive can prove incredibly potent in this fight, but particularly in Phase 2 and 3 to truncate the length of the encounter. A well placed Overdrive shot can detonate tonnes of the creatures while dealing significant damage to Legion’s health bar.
Legion - Phase 3
After depleting Legion’s second health bar, Phase 3 will begin. Much like the prior 2 phases, all the existing attacks remain but with yet more aggression and speed. Legion and its allies can now take the shape of a semicircle, made up of 5 arms that (similar to Phase 2) fire out nova projectiles.
Upon defeating Legion, you’ll be able to gather around 750 Lucenite (without modifiers active).
