Many Xenoblade Chronicles X bosses have rolled out the big guns, but few are as massive as the big bad of Chapter 10: The Zu Pharg Menace. As you might expect, the boss of this chapter is the Zu Pharg itself, piloted by two familiar faces, back for a second round. Here's the guide to taking down this behemoth and the dastardly duo inside once and for all.
This guide contains story spoilers! Proceed at your own risk.
How to Beat Zu Pharg
The massive floating warship Zu Pharg sure seems like an ace-in-the-hole for the Ganglion, but our old pals Dagahn and Ryyz decide to take it for a joyride over Sylvalum. With Elma and the crew intercepting, it's pretty clear that we'll need to be the force that stops the Zu Pharg from reaching New Los Angeles.
At this point, you should really get the flight module for your Skells if you haven't yet. It will eventually become a story mission requirement, but being able to fly makes both phases of this fight significantly easier.
Phase 1 starts with the UFO-like Zu Pharg hovering the sky. It can throw out multiple attacks and spawn some additional enemies too. Get in your Skells if they're flight-capable and take to the skies; otherwise, you'll have to work with ranged attacks from afar on the ground.
Target the massive discs and other appendages of the Zu Pharg. Really, anything is good to knock out, so long as you're taking out appendages. Fewer of them means fewer attacks in the Zu Pharg's arsenal, and both phases of this fight will be about reducing the number of threats you're facing. While the additional enemies can be a little bit of a nuisance, use this relatively calmer portion of the battle to get used to fighting in the air. Once you've done enough damage, Phase 2 starts.
The freaky flier now walks, and it will set off on a direct path across the world. My fight didn't go long enough to see if there's a "timer" on the battle, but better to be safe than sorry. Try and take it out ASAP.
As the Zu Pharg lumbers across the world, your flying Skells will be a huge boon, as you can stay out of the way of its limbs and target spots high up on its body, like its cannons.
Focus on whichever areas seem to be giving you the most trouble. The appendages are clearly labeled for whichever attack they're throwing out, so you'll be able to quickly discern where the problems are and act accordingly. Keep an eye out for additional foes yet again, but they're fairly easy to wipe out, even with the base-tier Skells you should have right now.
Keep up the pressure, avoid physically bumping into the Zu Pharg, and you should eventually bring the beast down. Once it collapses, the behemoth will explode, taking Dagahn and Ryyz with it. So much for a climactic rematch with the pair face-to-face.
That's the end of Chapter 10, and another major Ganglion threat down. Only a few more chapters left before you're rolling credits.
