Marunweem Lake - Quests, Collectibles, and Secrets
The Marunweem Lake Region sits between the Poidsear Coast and Manor Cape. Though it's mostly covered by the body of water from which it draws its name, this region still features several Merlin Trials, Ancient Magic Hotspots, and more.
In this Hogwarts Legacy guide, you'll be provided a detailed breakdown of the Marunweem Lake Region, including where to find all the Collectibles, Quests, and Secrets in this region.

Marunweem Lake Merlin Trial 1
- Spells Required: Basic Cast
This Merlin Trial can be found by traveling to the Marunweem Floo Flame before heading west. The Merlin altar will sit just in front of some stone structures and a dock. Activate the Merlin Trial by sprinkling Mallowsweet and then walk onto the stone walkway directly in front of the Merlin altar.
Jump across to the following stones, and use Revelio to reveal the area of the dock you'll need to land on. Landing on any non-highlighted areas will force you to restart this obstacle course. Now that you're at the center of the dock, leap onto the tilted stones, slide to the end of the path, and shoot the nearby wooden barrel.
With the wooden barrel out of the way, you can safely jump onto the small stone platform before leaping once more to reach the final platform that has a Bag of loot on it.
Marunweem Lake Merlin Trial 2
- Spells Required: Flipendo
Found toward the eastern reaches of the Marunweem Lake region, this Merlin Trial will task you with rotating three cubes until it perfectly matches the symbols beneath them. Use Revelio to mark the cubes in the surrounding area and once you've found them, use Flipendo to rotate the cubes to match the symbols. Remember that the symbols must match and the symbols must be facing the same direction for you to solve each puzzle.
When you've successfully lined up the symbols, the stone cubes will get covered in vines to indicate that you can move on to the next set of cubes. Read the list below to learn the location of the three cubes:
- Cube 1 - Southeast just behind the Merlin altar.
- Cube 2 - Northeast of the Merlin altar, roughly where the Thestral Den map marker is located.
- Cube 3 - Found up on the cliffside southwest of the Merlin altar near an Astronomy Table.
Marunweem Lake Merlin Trial 3
- Spells Required: Depulso and Wingardium Leviosa
Located on the hillside east of the Marunweem Lake Floo Flame, this Merlin Trial will ask you to open a gate to free a stone orb that will later need to be placed into a crater. To open the gate, use Depulso on the mechanism pictured above. With the gate open, climb the platform ahead to locate the stone orb and cast Wingardium Leviosa on it to carry the orb with you.
With the orb in tow, walk across the small bridge heading east, then turn left to drop the orb into its corresponding crater.
Marunweem Lake Merlin Trial 4
- Spells Required: Lumos
Located just northwest of the Marunweem Ruins Floo Flame, this Merlin Trial will require that you use Lumos to lure butterflies into the three stone housings in the area. To reveal the location of the stone housings needed for this trial, use Revelio and they'll be marked in blue. The butterflies are more elusive and they will not be marked by your spell so after sprinkling Mallowsweet Leaves, refer to the list below to learn where you can find the three groups of butterflies:
- Butterflies 1 - Floating above the campfire northeast of the Merlin altar.
- Butterflies 2 - Beside barrels just north of the Merlin altar, as seen in the image above.
- Butterflies 3 - These butterflies are found southeast of the ruins floating around a pointing statue.
Marunweem Lake Ancient Magic Hotspots
Marunweem Lake Ancient Magic Hotspot 1
- Spells Required: Alohomora Level 3
The first Ancient Magic Hotspot in the Marunweem Lake Region is found beneath the tower directly across from the Marunweem Bridge Floo Flame. Interact with the spouting reservoir of Ancient Magic and your camera will automatically turn north to reveal the location of the first of three Ancient Magic fragments that you'll need.
Next, use Reparo on the wood on the ground to repair an awning that you'll need to reach the second fragment. Walk up the stairs to the right of the repaired awning and leap to the nearby platform before climbing up to the first Ancient Magic fragment.
Now walk across the repaired awning and wrap around the southeastern side of the tower to discover a mechanism. Use the spell Accio to pull the mechanism and you'll create a path to the other side of the tower. Here you'll find a locked door housing the second Ancient Magic Fragment. Use Alohomora Level III on the lock to open the door and collect the fragment.
Lastly, look to the western side of the tower, and you'll find some planks reaching over the lake. From here, look down to spot the third Ancient Magic Fragment hovering above a small boat.
Ancient Magic Hotspot 2
Because this Ancient Magic Hotspot is located on the eastern side of Marunweem Lake near an Inferi Lair it's best to have fire-based Spells equipped such as Confringo and Incendio equipped when you approach the area. After taking out any Inferius that stand in your way, interact with the Ancient Magic Hotspot and you'll automatically catch a glimpse of the first Ancient Magic fragment.
To get to it, either hop on your broom or climb up the wooden structures pictured above. Climb and leap your way toward the Ancient Magic fragment and you'll notice a mechanism sitting in front of it. Blast the mechanism with Depulso a few times and a platform will rise so leap onto it to collect your first fragment.
Next, return to the wooden platform where you used Depulso to interact with the mechanism. Instead of facing where the first Ancient Magic fragment once was, turn to the northwest and you'll spot a pulley. Shoot the pulley with the spell of your choosing and you'll clear a path.
Jump across and loot the nearby chest before turning southwest and leaping onto the lower platform. From here, look to the ground and use Reparo to repair a floor that you'll need to access in a few seconds. Now turn back toward the northwest and jump into the clearing shown above. Wrap around the structure and walk across the floor you repaired to collect the second Ancient Magic fragment.
Lastly, drop down to the ground floor and you'll find the final fragment trapped behind a gate. Use Revelio to reveal a mechanism hidden by a few boxes. Destroy the boxes and use Depulso on the mechanism to open the gate and retrieve the final Ancient Magic fragment.
Marunweem Lake Demiguise Statue Locations
Marunweem Lake Demiguise Statue Location - Marunweem Hamlet
For this Demiguise Location, you won't need the unlocking spell, but you will need to know where to look. This Demiguise can be found far in the south region of Marunweem, which will require you to progress past the narrow Coastal Cavern guarded by goblins that connects the South Sea Bog to the Poidsear Coast.
Upon reaching the fishing hamlet of Marunweem, head Northeast along the road from the Floo Flame until you reach a side quest giver named Marianne Moffett. Just to the left of her is a small house, on the east side of the small river running through the hamlet.
Enter the unlocked home to find some Collection Chests, as well as a Demiguise Statue that has been hidden behind a counter on the left side of the first floor of the house.
Marunweem Lake Astronomy Tables
Marunweem Lake Astronomy Table 1
The sole Astronomy Table within the Marunweem Lake Region is found toward the eastern reaches of the area. To get there, travel to the Coastal Mine Floo Flame and head southward to find the Astronomy Table on the cliffs overlooking the lake.
Marunweem Lake Landing Platforms
Marunweem Lake Landing Platform 1
Finding this Landing Platform is relatively straightforward because it's located atop the tower across from the Marunweem Bridge Floo Flame. If you're near the area and check your Map or Mini-Map, you'll likely spot an Ancient Magic Hotspot marker in the same spot.
That's because the Landing Platform is in the same tower, though the Ancient Magic Hotspot is on the ground floor while the Landing Platform is on the roof.
Marunweem Lake Landing Platform 2
To reach the second Landing Platform in the Marunweem Lake region, make your way to the Coastal Mine Floo Flame before traveling south. The platform will sit on the cliffside just west of the Thestral Den. While heading south from the Coastal Mine Floo Flame, use Revelio to pinpoint the platform's location.
Marunweem Lake Infamous Foes
Grodbik
The only Infamous Foe in Marunweem Lake, Grodbik, can be found in the Coastal Mines but this area cannot be fully accessed until you begin the Lodgok's Loyalty Main Quest. Once you've started this quest, Grodbik can be found in a secret area of the Coastal Mines but if you missed him when you initially completed Lodgok's Loyalty, you can always return later.
To reach the secret area housing Lodgok, enter the Coastal Mine, use the mine cart to reach the main area, then use Accio to gross the first gap.
When you reach the area pictured above, walk through the archway and light the furnace on the other side with Incendio or Confringo. Lighting will seemingly have no effect but it actually turns on an elevator that leads to Grodbik's lair.
From the furnace, head down the stairs to the north and you'll find the elevator.
Interact with the elevator and you'll soon be face-to-face with Grodbik!
Marunweem Lake Treasure Vaults
Marunweem Lake Treasure Vault 1
- Spells Required: N/A
Found just before the small bridge southwest of the Coastal Mine Floo Flame, this Treasure Vault is guarded by a couple of Ranrok's Loyalists. Take them out and smash through the wooden door to collect your reward.
Marunweem Lake Treasure Vault 2
- Spells Required: Accio
This Treasure Vault is located on the hillside due south of the Coastal Mine Floo Flame. Enter the vault and use Revelio to highlight four of the handles on the wall.
Pull the four handles by using Accio and the treasure is yours.
Marunweem Lake Treasure Vault 3
- Spells Required: N/A
This Treasure Vault sits east of the Tower Tunnel Floo Flame and it touches the eastern map boundary. After defeating the Loyalists stationed outside the vault, head inside to collect your prize.
Marunweem Lake Treasure Vault 4
- Spells Required: Depulso
This Treasure Vault is found near the Bandit Camp just north of the Tower Tunnel Floo Flame and you'll need to crouch to enter.
Once inside the vault, spam the fan-like mechanism with the spell Depulso until it stops spinning. This will move a stone platform into place and allow you to climb into the passage above where your prize will be waiting.
Marunweem Lake Treasure Vault 5
- Spells Required: Accio
This Treasure Vault sits in the Marunweem Lake waters south of the island housing the Giant Purple Toad Den. Dive into the whirlpool and when you emerge on the other side, swim eastward to find the locked door and handle pictured below.
Use Accio to pull the handle and open the door. Climb up through the door, defeat the Dugbogs lurking inside, and you'll be free to collect the treasure.
Marunweem Lake Treasure Vault 6
- Spells Required: N/A
Found just east of the Marunweem Lake Floo Flame, this Treasure Vault isn't guarded by enemies and it features no puzzle-like elements. Simply head inside to collect the treasure.
Marunweem Lake Treasure Vault 7
- Spells Required: Alohomora III, Wingardium Leviosa, Glacius, Transformation
To reach this Treasure Vault, head to the Marunweem Hamlet and head east past the Poacher Bandit Camp. When you arrive you'll find an altar in front of the vault so cast Revelio to highlight its corresponding cube. The cube is locked in a cage in the nearby bandit camp so defeat the Poachers and head into their tent.
Use Alohomora III to pick the lock, then use Wingardium Leviosa to take the cube up to the altar. Once the cube is in place, cast Glacius on the cube to enter the vault.
After entering the vault, look to your left and you'll spot a vase. Cast your Transformation spell on the vase and place the newly formed chess piece on the tile pictured above to reveal the treasure.
Marunweem Lake Treasure Vault 8
- Spells Required: Incendio or Confringo, Disillusionment
Found near the Diricawl Den southeast of the Marunweem Ruins Floo Flame, this vault will require you to take out some Inferi so make sure to equip a fire-based spell such as Incendio or Confringo to take them out. After defeating the Inferius stationed outside the vault, move away from the door and conceal yourself with the Disillusionment spell.
With the door unable to spot you, sneak into the vault and defeat the Inferius inside to collect your reward.
Marunweem Lake Treasure Vault 9
- Spells Required: N/A
This Treasure Vault can be found on the rocky coast east of the Marunweem Ruins and it's relatively straightforward. When you reach the vault, blast through the stone wall with Confringo, or the spell of your choosing, and head through the passage to retrieve the loot.
Marunweem Lake Treasure Vault 10
- Spells Required: Alohomora II
This Treasure Vault is located underneath the Marunweem Ruins and it can only be unlocked with an upgraded Alohomora spell. Walk down the steps to reach the locked door, pick the lock with Alohomora II and collect the treasure.
Marunweem Lake Treasure Vault 11
- Spells Required: Accio
To find this Treasure Vault you'll need to take a dip in the waters west of the Marunweem Ruins Floo Flame.
After diving into the whirlpool, swim north to find the locked door and handle pictured above. Pull the handle by using Accio and the treasure is yours.
Marunweem Lake Collection Chests
There are 15 Chests in the Marunweem Lake region, which encompasses the area that sits between the Poidsear Coast and Manor Cape, and they can often be found in hamlets, bandit camps, or dungeons.
Marunweem Lake - Marunweem Collection Chests

Find this Collection Chest in a small shack just south of the Marunweem Floo Flame. Enter the unlocked door to loot your reward.
- Contains: Conjuration Recipe
This Collection Chest is located in a house on the western side of Marunweem. Head north from the Marunweem Floo Flame to find a house with a Level I lock.
To access this Collection Chest, you’ll need to know Alohomora I, which is unlocked as a reward for completing The Caretaker's Lunar Lament main quest. Unlock the door with Alohomora I and find the Collection Chest beside the bed.

To find this Collection Chest, head northeast from the Marunweem Floo Flame to a house with a clothesline and smoking chimney. The house is also near Marianne Moffett who has a marker for the Birds of a Feather side quest if you haven’t already completed it.
Use Alohomora I to unlock the door and enter the house. Find the Collection Chest near the sofa in the living room.

From the location of Marunweem Collection Chest 3, turn east to find stairs leading up a hill to another house with a smoking chimney. Climb the stairs and enter the unlocked house. You’ll find the Collection Chest sitting on the floor in a nook near the entrance.

You can find the next two Collection Chests in the same house. To access these chests, you’ll first need to learn Alohomora II, which is unlocked as you progress The Man Behind The Moons side quest.
From the location of Marunweem Collection Chest 4, continue following the path up the stairs to a house on a higher part of the hill. Find the first Collection Chest on the floor directly in front of the entrance.

In the same house where you used Alohomora II to unlock for Marunweem Collection Chest 5, head further inside to search for the second Collection Chest. Find the chest behind the sheet divider next to a chair near the fireplace.
Marunweem Lake - The Coastal Mine Collection Chests
- Contains: Conjuration Recipe
As you approach the Coastal Mine Floo Flame, there is a camp with enemies to defeat, including an Armoured Troll. Defeat all enemies to clear the area, then head up the path. The entrance to the mine is tucked away up the stairs leading southeast.
Once inside the mine, follow the path until you reach a mine cart. This room also has a couple of enemies to defeat. Ride the mine cart to the next section. Then, find the furnace that is just up the stairs northwest of where you entered. Cast a fire-based spell such as Incendio or Confringo to ignite the furnace, which will unlock a door to access The Coastal Mine Collection Chest 2.
Next, turn east to follow the stairs up to the next part of the mine. Cast Accio to pull the platform to you, jump on the platform, and cast Accio again to pull yourself over to the other side. Continue north to face enemies to defeat. Once clear, turn west and head up the stairs to the next room. Find the stairs in the northwest corner to climb.
Climb up the three ledges along the path to continue heading up the levels. You’ll finally reach a dead end with a circular manhole cover on the ground. Cast Accio or Wingardium Leviosa to move the manhole cover out of the way, revealing a ladder to descend.
Take the ladder down to the room below you, and find the first Collection Chest on a box in the northern part of the room.

From the location of The Coastal Mine Collection Chest 1, open the southern circular door to exit the room. Turn east and step on the conveyor belt to get to the lower area. Head west and stop before you get to the stairs. Turn south to continue through the archway.
At the edge of the path, cast Accio to pull the platform to you and cast it again to pull yourself across the gap. You’ll face multiple goblin enemies in this area to defeat. Once clear, head south to the mine cart and use it to get to the next section of the mine.
After exiting the cart, turn east and find the lever you activated during The Coastal Mine Collection Chest 1. Cast Accio to pull it down, which will unlock the circular door for you to enter. Open the door to find the second Collection Chest.
Marunweem Lake - Tower Tunnel Collection Chests

The first Collection Chest is near the beginning of the tunnel. Enter Tower Tunnel and follow the path to the first opening. You may need to defeat spider enemies in this room to clear the area. Once you take down all the spiders, head west to enter an opening.
Immediately after entering the opening, turn to face the southwest and head up the path. Turn to face northwest to find two spiderwebs blocking the path to the chest. Cast Incendio or Confringo to burn away the spiderwebs, and loot the Collection Chest.

The second Collection Chest in Tower Tunnel is located deeper in the dungeon. From the first main room where you encountered spider enemies, take the path in the north part of the room that descends. Follow the lantern path, climb up the large staircase, and continue down the tunnel until you reach another room full of spiders. Defeat the enemies to clear the area.
Once clear, face the north part of the room to find an entryway covered by a spiderweb. Cast Incendio or Confringo to burn away the spiderweb, then enter the room to claim the second Collection Chest at the north end of the room.
Marunweem Lake - Small Bandit Camp Collection Chests

This Collection Chest is located in a Small Bandit Camp in the northern part of the Marunweem Lake region northeast of Marunweem Bridge. Defeat the enemies in the area, and find the Collection Chest inside the tent.

Find this Collection Chest in a Small Bandit Camp south of the Coastal Mine Floo Flame on the coastline of Marunweem Lake. Defeat all the enemies to clear the area. Then, loot the chest in the tent on the eastern side of the camp.

This Collection Chest is in a Small Bandit Camp up a hill east of the Marunweem Lake Floo Flame. Defeat all the enemies to clear the area, and find the chest inside a tent next to the campfire.

Find this Collection Chest in a Small Bandit Camp east of the hamlet of Marunweem up a trail on a large hill. Defeat all enemies to clear the area, then loot the chest inside the tent for your reward.
Marunweem Lake - Medium Bandit Camp Collection Chest
- Contains: Attribute Trait
This Collection Chest is located in a Medium Bandit Camp, which is well hidden in the hills on the eastern side of Marunweem Lake. You cannot use your broom to fly directly to the camp, so you will need to find the entrance to the path that leads you through the hills. This location is near a Treasure Vault and Astronomy Table marker on the map.
Follow the path up to the Bandit Camp entrance and defeat all the enemies in the area.
Once clear, find the Collection Chest in a tent on the southern side of the camp.
