Could only make it part way through episode 2. I LOVE the expanse. It’s likely my favorite show and favorite book series of all time. But I’ve never been able to finish a Telltale game... the gameplay just doesn’t capture me. And that was true again here. I loved the idea of playing as Drummer. It just wasn’t fun and the story seemed to be pretty generic and low stakes and I didn’t like any of the other characters. And perhaps most of all, it just didn’t look good. Space environments in particular look super flat. Character models are alright. Ships look decent and there’s enough detail inside to feel pretty real. Really wanted to love this game and I’m still glad I paid for it because I want to support and encourage the franchise... but that doesn’t extend to lying about my experience in a review.

DNF. Played maybe 5 hours? I got the concept but something about it just didn’t click for me. I didn’t really feel compelled to explore the world. The puzzles were not all that interesting to me. The art was cute but didn’t hook me.

First game in many years that I started and finished inside of about a week. Really enjoyed this one. Great premise. Great mechanics to back it up. Surprising how well it works even though it’s a mashup of so many very different game styles. The moment to moment writing was often not very good, but the backstories in the branching paths you choose from were good, and some of the quieter emotional moments were good. Voice acting was just fine.

Cute. Super polished. Tight gameplay. Good length. Interesting ideas that were well executed. Didn’t feel compelled to platinum it, partly because the X,o,square, triangle challenges were annoyingly difficult to me... though I still appreciate that they did have an optional part of the game with such challenge in there.

Absolutely loved it. These games have combat that clicks with me better than I’ve experienced in any other game. So go have this excuse to get back in there and play around with all kinds of configurations of the combat system was great. And still lots of story! The main game was a masterpiece and this DLC is one too. I can’t think of a single thing to criticize. Loved it.

Enjoyed it alright but didn’t feel compelled to finish. Nice graphics. Really alluring setting, nailing that lovecraft vibe. Gameplay was simple but moderately satisfying.

Excellent script and acting. Pretty good story. Combat was good but I did find myself getting frustrated and failing a lot - just didn’t click like god of war does for me. Lenny Kravitz did terrible voice acting but fortunately was barely in it. Some great set pieces, but it felt like it ended maybe one or two fantastic set piece levels too early.

Unlike anything else I've played
37 hours.
I bought this for my wife after it came out of nowhere (from my radar anyway) and won game of the year. She loves murder mysteries and videogames that don't require a ton of precision fast gameplay so this seemed perfect. And yep, she loved it. I watched for awhile and played 3 hours or so myself but didn't get too into it. When the final cut released, I decided to give it a play through myself. Having voice acting extended to every line helped a lot and I did finish. It was definitely well written. I laughed out loud many times. It also took a lot of surprising directions. The game is super deep in terms of the consequences for failing checks and how that can change your play through. But I love that failing checks just as often leads to a funny outcome. I did occasionally save/load/load/load until I could pass a check but mostly I was happy to go where the dice led. The gameplay here is definitely very slow paced so it's a good chill out game. I had to be careful though because a few times I started to fall asleep. Even though murder mysteries typically bore me to death, that wound up being just one component to the story here and most of the rest of it was different and intriguing enough to maintain my interest through the whole play through. The voice acting was excellent throughout. I wasn't a very big fan of the music but I do think it really nailed the vibe of the game. I'm not much a fan of the art style either but there were a few moments when I was like "whoa.. that looks really cool!" I especially loved the easter egg of the development studio and its mini story within the game. They built a surprisingly robust world here out of a mountain of words and a bit of art and music. I can see why it was rated so highly by critics and the community and I largely agree with everything I've read about it.

This game really hooked me. I don’t give it a 10 because it doesn’t quite hang with my the whole time last of us and that lower and the world building was interesting but the particular care didn’t really deliver but the game plan definitely kept me hooked. It was really satisfying. It had absolutely great game feel. It ran perfectly and looked fantastic. The environments were novel and really highly designed. It always felt fair. It had good voice acting. The sense of progression felt really good . And finally, it didn’t overstay.

Great story. Laugh out loud moments in almost every episode. Excellent voice acting. A few touching moments. It didn't _quite_ stick the landing, but it got really close to a truly powerful one. Thoroughly enjoyed it throughout. The only Telltale-style game I've ever played to completion. Gameplay was actually fun -- the dispatching that is, the hacking minigame felt underdeveloped. It was a good choice to not have a 3rd person walking around interactivity and instead just focus on the dispatching itself and leave the rest to pure animation.

Really enjoyed this game. I rolled credits around 50 hours. Did one more run up and one more down just to see what end game was like. It didn't seem that compelling to me so I called it there. The main game though was super fun. Progression across runs felt compelling. Moment to moment gameplay felt great. I liked this one more than the first game, but I don't think I could say why. I'm not much of a fan of the art style but the music was great and the feel of the game was great. Favorite boss was probably Scilla -- always enjoyed the banter before those fights and the song was good.

I came into this one, especially intrigued by the lore. Everything about the game felt polished excellent sound design great world that they have built really good graphics. I ultimately quit though because they basic gameplay loop didn’t really seem to advance any kind of story and that’s what I was especially interested in doing the sci-fi world they built here seems really cool, but it just makes so little sense to me that we’re all playing as these are craters and like killing each other over these resources, but then we all go back to the same base and are talking to the same in PCs that run these shops. It just doesn’t make any sense. Ensure it’s just whatever multiplayer coding that they need to layer on, but just felt so disjointed to me.

I want to like this game so badly. I’m a huge fan of science fiction and I really enjoyed the first game. I like the humor I like the basic world that they’ve built in the lore around it, but I just really do not like the art style I do not like how every one of the major factions looked and spoke almost identically, so that I could barely even tell which one was which, and it seems like the developers noted that problem as well because they would list the faction above each character you’re talking to I quit early after getting to the second planet when it looked just so much the same as the first planet with factions all looking the same and the locations all looking the same it just made the entire experience feeling really same. The combat was fine. I didn’t find the story especially compelling. I just feel really disappointed because I wanted to like this game so badly.

One of my all time favorite games. Far and away my favorite Battlefield. Titan Mode is something I’ve been desperate for ever since.

Good game feel. Beautiful graphics and design. I ultimately quit after being off and on with it because the locations just all felt so samey that I didn’t feel compelled to explore. Even though the game really felt like Odyssey to play (one of my favorite games ever), and I always thought I’d love the setting in Japan, it’s history just doesn’t connect with me like Ancient Greece did since I studied so much of that in college and its culture permeates my own pretty deeply. I guess Japan’s does too but not as much with me. The story also didn’t really compel me. Odyssey’s was better even though it wasn’t anywhere near mind blowing like Witcher 3 or Last of Us or God of War. I really wanted to love this game. It’s good but it’s not one I really feel compelled to finish. I feel like I played long enough to see what it has to offer and I had my fill.

Played off and on for over a year. Great graphics. Beat locations. Decent gameplay loop. Kind of like uncharted. Some interesting mechanics that changed up the traditional (like skill progression through mentors, though I really wish you developed more of a relationship with them... instead it was all just through menus after finding the NPC). It just didn’t stick for me though. Several years ago I was in a place where it probably would have.

Played 9 hours. I mean yeah they get a lot of the aesthetic right (to the movies) but the gameplay is just so boring. And just as with most MMOs it just really bothers me that NPC enemies just keep respawning in the same spots. It makes it feel like the world is so flat and like a toy rather than a breathing world to explore. It’s super popular even a couple months after release and I’m jealous of all the people that are super into it. But every time I open it up, my moment-to-moment just isn’t very fun.

It’s high production value, sure. It’s more Mario Kart. I haven’t really been into that since N64. The open world part doesn’t at all compel me to explore. Knockout is a good addition but doesn’t compel me to play. Probably fun with a lot of friends.
