I want to firstly say that it’s the best Mario game since Super Mario Odyssey. The creativity and the overall game’s design is undeniable. The gameplay has never become stale and instead keeps the journey fascinating from start to finish. I cannot remember the last time that I had this much fun playing a 2D Mario game. Nintendo has outdone themselves by making this platform game’s overall experience refreshing. Though, I wish that I could give it a perfect score because I love it that much. I mainly don’t like how the camera is adjusted for the multiplier. It basically caused us to die so many times by prioritizing who was the party leader and not who was up ahead, which was a bit frustrating to deal with. Nevertheless, I had a great time playing this game. And, for anyone who has not played it yet, I highly recommend it.

I’m not entirely sure what was the idea behind all of this. Perhaps, Nintendo wanted us to stick together and not be as passive away from each other. They might also want to change it for the better because they probably thought that Mario Party had become stale by producing nearly the same game over and over again. While I do think it is an interesting idea by changing it to make it refreshing (if that's the case), I think the whole execution is the problem because this game involves more luck. For one, there was a time where I got short towards collecting mini stars, and then another player collected them. You may argue that you could make a strategy by looking at the board ahead since you know how many spaces you can move. Although it is true to a certain extent, I think having a different way of rolling a dice causes more issues because rolling a dice does not involve roulette anymore. Instead, you see an actual dice with numbers on each side rotate around and hopefully roll on the number you want it to be. The only form of a dice with roulette in it is a slow dice block. Despite my harsh criticism towards this game due to the board themselves, there are some surprising positives that I would like to talk about. The graphics of this game are beautiful and refreshing. The minigames are super fun. And, story mode isn’t that bad surprisingly except that the party board can be painful to play through. I do also like that you can shop with mini stars that you collect after playing the game within time. Unfortunately, this is where it ends.

A follow up Mario party game from a previous one, which is pretty underrated. The game also has a huge change in the board. For starters, instead of buying items in the shop, you can pick up the orbs by passing by a machine which hands out the orb. It is essentially an event which could affect players depending on the type of the orb. For example, if I placed my orb in any of the available spaces and someone landed on it, something would happen to this player. I could either switch places with somebody, steal their coins/stars, or steal their orbs. It is an interesting idea and would be effective except that it is a bit broken. My main issue is that you can throw as far as 10 spaces away from you. That is almost halfway across the entire board. But, later Mario Party games fixed the problem. I do also appreciate the variety of boards that the game offers. The story mode is also interesting by going up against three koopa kids and beating them by taking all their coins away. It is also surprisingly short, which I’m glad it is because it is painful to play through. My main complaint for this game in general is the minigame. Most of them are mash and luck based, especially on the duel minigame category. So, the fact that I’ve countered these types of minigames very often made me not want to return to the game as much. It’s a bummer because I want to give it a chance, and the boards themselves are decent.

This is the first Mario Party game that I ever played. I remember playing a decent amount of it as a child. I never got a chance to finish it. I also wasn’t aware that there were other Mario party games until I played on later consoles. It’s also been almost a decade since I played this game. I do however remember liking the game but ended up frustrated with it because I was so close to beating it but couldn’t figure out how. As I picked up my DS and started playing Mario Party Advance again recently, it brought back some nostalgic flashbacks. I was happy to play it again. At the same time, I noticed how the game didn’t age well. For one, the board itself isn’t as much fun for me. The idea of going to places and helping people on the side quests could be tedious. I remember that I had to go all the way to the other side of the map to find the destination. To be fair, you can change character depending on which areas in the map you would like to start from. Having a limited number of turns could be challenging if you’re not paying attention to the spaces. The only way of increasing the number of turns is by winning any upcoming minigames that's selected in the roulette. This concept is an interesting idea and would work if most minigames are good and fun. In fact, most minigames that I liked had shrunk on me. I’m not sure what it is. Perhaps, it has to do with an overall feel and physics as a platformer. While I still want this game to be part of my long-lasting memory, I couldn’t find any reasons to come back to it. I also find myself being bored by it. This is the first Mario Party game where it had shrunk on me tremendously.

A previous Mario party game that had decided to pass its influence down the torch to this game brought a couple of new features. For example, the game added the Bowser Party game, which is essentially a game where everyone rides in the cart and runs away from a giant bowser towards their destination. Another game mode that the game added is Amiibo Party, which requires you to own a physical form of an amiibo. Personally, I don’t agree with the idea of having a game mode only for those who purchased the amiibo because it actually shrinks the whole game’s replay value by not everyone being able to buy them. For Bowser Party, while I do think it is the most memorable part about the game, I do think that playing as a giant Bowser is broken. For one, I do think that Bowser has way too many dice. I feel like it’s unnecessary because there could be a scenario where everyone who is running away rolls low numbers consistently. On top of that, the minigames could sometimes be unfair if a Bowser player is good. For me, I don’t have many reasons to come back to this game. The party game in this one is similar to the previous but less memorable. There is no story mode, which brings down the experience for solo players. All of those examples are the reasons that Mario Party 10 is my least favorite Mario Party game.

A golf game where it started all under Nintendo’s name. When I saw that game, I was curious to see how it played out. If there’s anything that I have to say about it, this game is a bit dated. Not to say that it’s inherently terrible. However, my main issue is that your aim point is limited by only having a few angles. On top of that, you’ll be more likely to struggle in controlling the distance due to not knowing how far it will go nor the distance for each club. I do get that the game was made during the time where technologies had their limits, but there’s no way that anyone would deny that the soundbite would be nearly intolerable. Specifically, I could not stand hearing a putting stroke sound. Although I can technically mute the game, I still struggle to find reasons to return to the game as there are better games out there. Perhaps, I’ll play it once in every blue moon.

A golf game where I would like to call it a sequel from the first game because it's improved tremendously. For starters, the game added specific yardage for each club. In fact, there’s an option where you would either make the power bar fast which makes the player hit the ball farther or slower which makes the player hit the ball shorter. Plus, there’s more than one golf course to choose from. It also has music when you’re playing on the golf course. There’s still some issues that I have with this game, which didn’t change from the previous game. For example, I don’t fully know how far I would hit off the tee. There were times where I thought I would hit the driver far enough to get to the opening for my next shot. However, I hit the ball too far. This is an example where each golf course would require muscle memory, practice, and patience.

From how the game was for its time, I think it’s pretty good. There’s a new feature in the story where you would play as any npc characters starting in the Marion golf club. It also brought out rpg elements by earning experience for every round you played. The golf courses are nice and fun to play. There’s not much to say about this game besides the fact that it has similar mechanics from Mario Golf on Nintendo 64 except that the music's too loud. Whenever I played the round, I noticed how the music made this audio overall mix clutter by washing out the soundbite. There were times where I would struggle hearing my character and hitting sound effects. I would rather play it without the music.

A game that is essentially a remake from the previous Mario golf game in Gameboy color. The graphic improved a lot by adding more colors and details. It actually adds charm to the game. I also do like that there’s a new feature for the story where you can choose to play double in the tournament mode. Basically, you’re playing in the alternative format where one player hits a shot and another hits it after. It goes on and on even after the hole is finished. I do like the idea behind it although it can be tough due to not knowing if your npc partner would hit a good or bad shot. I would constantly pray and hope that I won’t have trouble hitting the next shot. On the bright side, your partner would always make the putt. Although I would consider it to be a really solid remake, I don’t personally return to it as much because there’s other games that I would rather play repeatedly.

Mario Golf 64 is the first 3D Mario golf game in the series. Despite the graphics looking dated due to its basic polygon shape characters, I find this game to be the most relaxing. I’m not sure how I would consider it to be the most relaxing out of all of the other games. Perhaps, it has to do with the music. It’s not too overwhelming and fits the golf course really well. My main complaint however is that there’s a noise in the background which sounds like a monkey on the Yoshi Island course. Speaking of the golf courses, I enjoyed each and every one of them even though some of them can be tough. Not only has this game offered golf courses to play, it also gave us multiple modes such as match play, skins, character versus mode, ring shots, and even miniature golf. There’s so much to do which increases replay value. I would love to put this game in a higher ranking but couldn’t because of the issues I had. Mainly, I couldn’t predict whether or not the shot I hit would go where I wanted. Specifically, the icon that is on the lower right corner dictates how the ball is sitting on the lie. If the ball is flat on the fairway, you can produce your 98 to 100 percent shot. However, if the ball is in the divot, it would reduce to 75 to 85 percent shot depending on the golf club you selected. On one hand, it shows realism based on how it would be played in real life. On the other hand, the game doesn't always make sense due to how unforgiving it is if you miss the center on your sweet spot. There’s other issues that I have when playing on the golf course, but this game was made 20 years ago. So, I’ll let them slide because I still find myself returning to this game.

When I began playing it, I noticed that something’s different in the technical sense. Specifically, the power bar’s icon is now in the vertical on the right side of the screen. In the previous games, they usually have them in the bottom horizontally. Then, the arrow, which would essentially be a substitute for a sweet spot, decides where the ball would go. It seems like I've been making this part a big deal. However, the issue with that swing mechanic is how random it is. You no longer have to worry about the second part of the swing because it does it for you. I do understand how reducing a sweet spot manual could save time in the speed rush mode, but this can take away the skill curve around the golf course. The game to me seems to be focusing more on how the game is pacing as opposed to how it’s being performed accurately. Therefore, Mario Golf Super Rush is the most forgiving, luckiest, and the easiest Mario golf game to play on. With the game’s mechanics aside, the game is still fun to play overall. Having character roasters being dressed up instead of their usual design is a nice touch. The story returns rpg elements by earning experience points for every round you play. The only disappointing thing about it is that there’s no tournament to play on and surprisingly short. I wish that there’s a way of playing a full 18-hole practice round, so you’ll be able to reach level 100 sooner. I’m also disappointed by how it didn’t have as many game modes before it was patched. While I do appreciate the updates that Nintendo sends us, I just don’t understand why they decided to give us something that we can do within a week instead of giving us a full product. Playing online is decent except that it becomes harder to find lobbies as the game goes on. I do also wish that you can play 18 holes on the matchmaking mode to increase your exp sooner. The golf courses are pretty solid although most of them are more generic and inoffensive than usual.

This is in my opinion the most balanced Mario golf game in the whole entire series. It follows the traditional mechanics but made in a way more forgiving by slowing down the timing on the power gauge. Additionally, you can switch from automatic to manual shot on your touch screen instead of pressing A or B on the start of your swing. The game also offers some challenges by beating the ring shots, 1 on 1 putt, and birdie challenge, but the frustration doesn’t fully take away the enjoyment I had from this game in the first place. While I admit that I have bias towards this game due to being the first one I played and the one I spent the most time with, I can confidently say how it made it more refreshing by adding a mii feature. It allows you to play whichever mii’s you created as, which is nice because you only had video game characters to choose from in the previous games. Although it doesn’t have any rpg elements by not earning any experience points, you can instead shop for clothes which would affect your distance, spin, height, and ball flights. I do also understand how the first couple golf courses could be a little generic by their designs, but I personally find them fun to play, especially when I constantly want to break my own scoring records.
